WHO WE ARE AND WHAT WE DO
AAPG UM SC, the American Association of Petroleum Geologists Universiti Malaya Student Chapter, is affiliated with the international organization AAPG, the world's largest professional geological society based in the United States. Our student chapter operates as a non-profit organization and serves as a valuable platform for students at the Universiti Malaya to nurture their skills and expand their knowledge in the field of the oil and gas industry. Founded in March 2003 within the Department of Geology under the guidance of Dr. Nur Iskandar Taib, our chapter falls under the supervision of the Geological Society of Malaysia (GSM), the primary geological organization in Malaysia. At present, Dr. Meor Hakif Amir Hassan serves as the advisor for AAPG UM SC. Our chapter's core values include Dedication, Integrity, Productivity, Growth, Competence, and Collaboration, encapsulated in our motto: #DedicatedForGrowth.
Throughout the academic year, AAPG UM SC hosts diverse events, such as forums, technical talks, and industry-focused workshops. In addition, we are dedicated to enhancing students' soft skills by providing workshops on public speaking and self-branding. Our commitment extends to supporting the self-development of all Universiti Malaya geology students through constructive work programs.
