RARE EARTH ELEMENTS TALK

An informative talk featuring an REE expert

To kickstart our 22/23 semester 1, AAPG UM SC took the initiative to organize a highly informative session focused on Rare Earth Elements (REEs). Comprising a group of seventeen crucial metallic elements, REEs play an indispensable role in powering various high-tech devices that have become an integral part of our modern lives.

The speaker for this enlightening talk was none other than Ts. Raja Shazrin Shah bin Raja Ehsan Shah, a distinguished chemical engineer and professional sustainability consultant. His areas of expertise revolve around multidisciplinary and cross-cutting aspects of the environment, technology, and the economy. As the founder and director of Galaxy Tech Solutions (KL) Sdn Bhd, Ts. Raja Shazrin Shah has established strong collaborations with governmental, private, and international agencies.

His specialties encompass a wide spectrum, including ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance), GHG (Greenhouse Gas) emissions management, hydrogen technologies, membrane filtration, environmental management, sustainable development practices, green engineering, palm oil mill effluent treatment, skim latex production, ultrafiltration processes, waste management strategies, and cleaner production and audit techniques.

The primary objective of this talk, led by such an eminent speaker, was to provide students with valuable exposure and awareness about the significance of Rare Earth Elements (REEs) in today's technologically driven world. By delving into the pivotal role these elements play in powering cutting-edge technologies and their broader implications for sustainability and environmental responsibility, the event aimed to equip attendees with a deeper understanding of the critical issues facing our world today. AAPG UM SC firmly believes that fostering awareness about REEs is essential not only for students but also for society as a whole as we navigate the complexities of a rapidly advancing technological landscape.
