WELL LOG ANALYSIS WORKSHOP
Unveiling the Hidden Layers: A Deep Dive into Well Log Analysis at Our Workshop
Well log analysis is the key to unveiling the hidden layers beneath the surface. This method allows geoscientists to gain valuable insights into the physical and petrophysical properties of subsurface formations, including porosity, permeability, lithology, and fluid saturation. By interpreting data collected from logging tools lowered into a wellbore, well log analysis became an invaluable tool for reservoir characterization in the oil and gas industry.
Therefore, on 15 April 2023, the American Association of Petroleum Geologists Universiti Malaya Student Chapter (AAPG UM SC) organized a Well Log Analysis Workshop. with the aim of exposing attendees to well log analysis knowledge and providing training in reading well log data.
The guest speaker was Arie Krisna Lopulisa. He is a Geoscientist with more than 17 years of industrial experience focusing on the development and exploitation phase. Currently working as a Senior Geologist at Schlumberger (SLB) for a year and six months now, Mr. Arie's expertise spans 3D Geological Modeling, Development and Production Geology, Reservoir Characterization, and Sequence Stratigraphy. He shared his extensive knowledge during the event.
Mr. Arie began with the basics of well log analysis and progressively delved deeper into the topic, incorporating real-life experiences and interactive activities. He also presented a case study from a brown field in Peninsular Malaysia, providing participants with valuable insights and knowledge. The engagement of students was evident as they actively participated and posed questions during the workshop.
